5 Easy Holiday Decorating Tips

Whether you're someone who starts pulling out their holiday decor as soon as Halloween is over or you wait until the day after Thanksgiving to decorate, these holiday decorating tips will help you create a cozy space for you and your family to enjoy.

1.) Get organized! Of course I'm going to recommend this. Before you start digging into your holiday bins, now is a good time to go through your decorations and take stock of what you have. Take a look at what you use, what you will never use but may be holding on to for various reason, and items that may be broken with no plan for repair.

2.) Choose a theme - some ideas may include the traditional red and green colors of Christmas, a farmhouse holiday look, monotone colors like white, gold, and silver, or a collection of eclectic decor of ornaments, a snowman collection, or train sets that's been passed down in the family for generations.

3.) Create special moments throughout the house. Add some holiday bedding to the guest room, a mini holiday tree to your child's bedroom, or a scented candle and some fir greenery to a bathroom. Be intentional about where you place your decorations. Highlight special pieces and be sure not to clutter a space.

4.) It's all about lighting! Candles, string lights, and a warm fire really set the ambiance. If you want to step it up, you can buy plug-in dimmers for your lights and lamps. You can find them at your local hardware store and are simple to install.

5.) Don't forget the cookies! Fresh, warm holiday cookies are essential for a family night of decorating.
